Lake 2 Lake Relay is a group of people who run from Bay City (Lake Huron) to Ludington (Lake Michigan). A team consists of 10 people who each run 5 miles three times over the course of the 150 miles. Each person is required to run a certain pace, in which the group of people you run with depends on your pace. The whole event takes just under 24 hours to complete.
FAQ
Are there bathrooms available along the course? There will be numerous rest areas along the Pere Marquette Rail Trail. We are also trying to secure help with some local high schools, where we potentially may have the use of showers.
What about food and water? Every team will be responsible for bringing their own food and water supplies. Your team captain will coordinate this.
How will we run in the dark? The use of headlamps and reflective vests will be MANDATORY when it is dark. Each team will need 2 of each. Once again, you MUST always stay with the group during the night time (9:30 p.m.-5:30 a.m.) – NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
How many vehicles are we allowed? We are limiting each team to 2 vehicles. This allows for a “rest” vehicle, and a “chase” vehicle. Each team will be responsible for providing their own vehicles, and we recommend that team members chip in some gas money. Come on, these are your buddies!!!
Why are there pace groups? We want to ensure you are safe, everyone finishes, and we all have a great time. Since we are running through the night, we do not want anything (lions, tigers, bears…) to attack us. So, we are going to match runners with like paces together. Paces may fluctuate based on the geography each leg is covering, but you must be able to maintain pace with the group. This gives you a chance to run as a group, and provides for greater safety and security.
Any thing else I should know? Our recommendation is to coordinate getting to the starting line and getting home with your team or other runners. Also, some members are hanging out in Ludington for the night/weekend. Feel free to stay and have fun.
